Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Specialist role at Kaiser Permanente Southern California Region is a key position that requires a high level of clinical expertise and leadership skills. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will partner with operational managers to ensure that nursing staff delivers safe and effective care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement area of specialty competency criteria for outcome monitoring of staff.
  • Assist in interviewing staff and provide input into evaluations regarding clinical competence.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to nursing staff and other healthcare providers.
  • Participate in management in providing 24-hour clinical leadership by developing standards of practice, policies, and procedures for a specialty patient population.
  • Evaluate clinical practice in areas of specialty to ensure community/professional standards are met.
  • Manage high-risk patients in the area of specialty to achieve safe, high-quality, cost-effective outcomes for the system.
  • Round with the multi-disciplinary team in specialty area and evaluate policies and procedures for clinical nursing practice in specialty area.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration based on clinical needs of patient/family related to specialty area.
  • Participate in outcomes research/evidence-based practice projects.
  • Identify clinical quality indicators for specialty and implement methods and processes in area of specialty to sustain change in nursing practice, programs of care, and clinical involvement with specialty-specific professional organizations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specialty education programs for patients and families.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specialty training programs for nursing staff, including nurses in the communities.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and develop, implement, and evaluate successful projects using scientific operations management principles.
Requirements
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in area of specialty required.
  • Clinical master's degree in nursing, in area of specialty, from an accredited school of nursing.
  • California Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification in area of specialty.
  • Current California RN license.
  • Current BLS certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist experience.
