We are seeking a skilled Reliability Engineer IV to enhance our manufacturing processes and contribute to our mission of delivering high-efficiency solar products.

Position Summary:

The Reliability Engineer IV will play a crucial role in evaluating equipment life cycles and conducting analyses to guide investment and maintenance strategies for our assets. This role requires a proactive approach to identify potential production issues and implement preventive measures to avoid malfunctions. Additionally, the engineer will focus on optimizing process efficiency and ensuring our production systems can scale to meet our growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate hypotheses and models (e.g., acceleration models) and validate them through experimental methods.
  • Design and oversee experiments aimed at enhancing the performance, reliability, and stability of thin film solar cells while reducing manufacturing costs.
  • Conduct root-cause failure analysis and characterize component degradation using various diagnostic techniques, including SEM/EDX, XRD, and EL/PL.
  • Lead collaboration with certification and external laboratories to secure necessary certifications for compliance with IEC or UL standards.
  • Develop training methods for technician staff on building and testing devices for reliability, including the construction of small solar modules and conducting accelerated chamber testing.
  • Utilize electroluminescence (EL) and photoluminescence (PL) imaging, light I-V testing, and IR imaging for module characterization.
  • Support the R&D Lab in developing new techniques and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with 1 year of experience, or M.S. with 4 years of experience, or BS with 8 years of experience in engineering, materials, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience in laboratory testing and reliability/durability testing of electronic devices, particularly in solar photovoltaic cells/modules.
  • Strong knowledge of probability, statistics, and design of experiments, with familiarity in statistical analysis software such as JMP, Minitab, or R.
  • Programming proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages is highly desirable.
  • Excellent practical lab skills and experience in designing custom mechanical and electronic testing apparatus.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and maintain a forward-looking perspective on technology trends.
  • Strong initiative and capability to work independently within a matrixed environment, coupled with excellent communication skills.
