Job Summary

Pacific Island Community of Oregon is seeking a highly skilled Employment Specialist to join our team. As an Employment Specialist, you will play a critical role in assisting adults with mild to severe disabilities in gaining competitive employment and providing follow-up support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Job Development and Placement
    • Assess participant interests and abilities, conduct job development and placement, and provide consistent support to participants, employers, and others involved in the successful employment of the participant.
    • Demonstrate understanding of community-based work settings and assist employed participants in adhering to dress codes, behavior expectations, and other work site requirements.
  • Business Development and Community Outreach
    • Represent Pacific Island Community of Oregon to the business community, developing and maintaining excellent relationships with DVR and DDD counselors and agency managers.
    • Research local employers and agencies to determine job openings and educate potential employers about the advantages of hiring persons with disabilities.
  • Record Keeping and Administration
    • Maintain concise records and paperwork, including narratives, plans, and reports, in a timely and accountable manner.
    • Maintain an updated file of all employers contacted, including names and titles of key hiring personnel.
  • Safe and Healthy Work Environment
    • Maintain a safe and healthy, accessible, and productive work environment.
    • Drive frequently to perform essential job functions, such as researching local companies, accompanying participants to job sites, and meeting with potential employers.
Requirements
  • Current valid Washington State driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Reliable, safe, and operative vehicle that will pass agency vehicle safety inspection.
  • Excellent communication, listening, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Creativity, flexibility, dependability, positive attitude, professional appearance, and demeanor.
  • Strong commitment to the rights and abilities of individuals with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Skills and competence to establish supportive, trusting relationships with individuals with mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment.
  • Adherence to professional and ethical standards of practice.
  • Demonstrated respect for diversity and commitment to developing multicultural competency and sensitivity.
