Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Care Coordinator to join our team at the Anti-Cruelty Society. As a key member of our Community Medicine department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the best possible experience for animals, clients, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Uphold the organization's culture by promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
    • Review outpatient schedules to ensure appointments are scheduled efficiently and effectively.
    • Communicate with clients, veterinarians, and reception staff to ensure follow-up care for ongoing medical issues.
    • Coordinate schedules for outside veterinary services, such as cardiology and ultrasound.
    • Confirm and prepare for upcoming procedures, including reviewing pre-appointment instructions.
    • Train new staff on outpatient processes and procedures.
    • Develop and present educational programs for staff on supporting access to veterinary care.
    • Provide support for Community Medicine department outreach events, such as wellness fairs and career fairs.
    • Attend professional development trainings related to the mission and goals of the Anti-Cruelty Society.
  • Technical Skills
    • Support Fear Free handling practices.
    • Administer medications, including oral, topical, intramuscular, intravascular, and subcutaneous injections.
    • Understand basic practice management software.
    • Complete veterinary technician exams, such as TPR, cardiac auscultation, and hydration assessments.
    • Communicate exam findings, lab results, and discharge instructions to clients.
    • Conduct in-house diagnostics, including skin scrape analysis, heartworm, and feline leukemia tests.
    • Perform surgical induction and prep, patient monitoring, and recovery.
    • Place intravenous catheters.
    • Perform dental cleaning.
    • Understand infectious disease cleaning protocols.
    • Take digital x-rays, including standard and dental x-rays.
    • Knowledge of emergency drug protocols.
    • Accurately dispense prescription medication.
    • Complete submissions for reference lab.
    • Understand or be willing to learn rabbit restraint, monitoring, and recovery.

  • Spanish speaking preferred.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two to four years of veterinary technician experience and three to five years of previous experience in an animal-related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to handle work around companion animals.
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, and reach.
