Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Care Coordinator to join our team at the Anti-Cruelty Society. As a key member of our Community Medicine department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the best possible experience for animals, clients, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Manage outpatient schedules to ensure efficient and effective use of resources
    • Communicate with clients, veterinarians, and reception staff to ensure seamless follow-up care
    • Coordinate outside veterinary services, including cardiology, ultrasound, and specialist care
    • Prepare for upcoming procedures, including confirming appointments and reviewing pre-appointment instructions
    • Train new staff on outpatient processes and procedures
    • Develop and present educational programs for staff on supporting access to veterinary care
    • Support Community Medicine Department Outreach events, including wellness fairs and career fairs
  • Technical Skills
    • Support Fear Free handling practices
    • Administer medications, including oral, topical, intramuscular, intravascular, and subcutaneous
    • Understand basic practice management software
    • Complete veterinary technician exams, including TPR, cardiac auscultation, and hydration assessments
    • Communicate exam findings, lab results, and discharge instructions to clients
    • Conduct in-house diagnostics, including skin scrape analysis, heartworm, and feline leukemia tests
    • Perform surgical induction and prep, patient monitoring, and recovery
    • Place intravenous catheters
    • Perform dental cleaning
    • Understand infectious disease cleaning protocols
    • Perform digital x-rays, including standard and dental
    • Knowledge of emergency drug protocols
    • Accurately dispense prescription medication
    • Complete submissions for reference lab
    • Understand or be willing to learn rabbit restraint, monitoring, and recovery
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two to four years of veterinary technician experience and three to five years of previous experience in an animal-related field preferred
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask while providing quality care in a fast-paced and high-volume setting
  • Effective communication skills
  • Maintains a neat and professional appearance
  • Compassion and empathy for both animals and owners
  • Passion for animals
  • Comfortable in handling animals and the potential risk they pose
  • Spanish speaking preferred
