Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Academic Medical Dosimetrist to join our Radiation Oncology team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing optimum, accurate, and meaningful treatment plans for radiation oncology patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with nursing and therapists to ensure effective treatment simulation and patient care.
  • Understand and address imaging artifacts caused by motion or prosthetics.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of anatomy for contouring normal structures in collaboration with residents and Radiation Oncologists.
  • Expertise in treatment planning, particularly with Pinnacle software, and knowledge of all its modules.
  • Communicate effectively with the radiation oncology team regarding treatment plan implementation, including patient setup, immobilization devices, and field arrangements.
  • Provide support to therapists for DRR, kV, and portal images, as well as other imaging parameters.
  • Participate in special procedures, such as TBI, TSEI, HDR, and dosimetry and technical resource management.
  • Prepare treatment plan documentation and transfer treatment fields to the record and verify system.
  • Knowledge of making photon and electron blocks, bolus, and treatment aids.
  • Active participation in clinical and didactic teaching of radiation therapy students, medical dosimetry students, medical physics residents, and other trainees.
  • Active participation in clinical research and assisting radiation oncology faculties for research.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical trials, planning, and submissions per protocol guidelines.
  • Accurate billing of patient codes per planning/procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in physical or biological sciences.
  • Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) or board eligible but must be board certified (CMD) within one year of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of physics, math, dosimetry, and computer skills.
  • Good communication skills, initiative, and team spirit.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science degree in physics, radiological physics, dosimetry, or math.
  • Experience with Pinnacle, RadCalc, MOSAIQ, CRAD, MIM, IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, IGRT, brachytherapy, and other relevant software.
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Publications and conference presentations.
  • Aptitude for learning with other software.
