GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Executive Director of the Office is designated as the state risk management expert, overseeing the formulation and execution of a comprehensive risk management framework for the state. The Office aims to effectively manage expenses related to potential losses for state entities through tailored risk management and claims handling services.

ROLE OF RISK MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS

Risk Management Consultants serve as representatives of the Executive Director, aiding state entities in the establishment and maintenance of thorough risk management strategies. They play a crucial role in identifying potential threats to personnel, assets, and essential operations prior to any loss incidents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a liaison for the Office to fulfill statutory obligations and achieve performance objectives.
  • Support state entities in the development and upkeep of robust risk management frameworks.
  • Facilitate the execution of risk management initiatives aimed at loss mitigation.
  • Offer guidance to state entities in recognizing, assessing, and managing risks to minimize loss impacts.
  • Provide resources and expertise to empower state entities in making informed, proactive decisions regarding risk management.
  • Assist in the identification and prioritization of risks to enable meaningful improvements in quality and safety.
  • Develop recommendations for risk prevention and control that can be implemented by state entities.
  • Support state agency representatives in achieving risk avoidance, prevention, and safety assessments.
  • Conduct on-site consultations to identify hazards and risk exposures, providing written recommendations for risk control measures.
  • Perform evaluations of risk management programs and safety initiatives, delivering presentations on best practices.
  • Administer established guidelines for a comprehensive risk management program applicable to all state entities, aimed at reducing property and liability losses.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Risk Management Consultant II - Four years of full-time experience in risk management, insurance, safety management, or a related field. Risk Management Consultant III - Five years total experience. Risk Management Consultant IV - Six years total experience.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple tasks, prioritizing effectively, and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulations and guidelines.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Capacity to receive constructive feedback positively.
  • Ability to collaborate professionally in an office setting.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Willingness to work beyond standard hours as required.
  • Physical ability to lift and move 30 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree from an accredited four-year institution in risk management, insurance, or a related field.
  • Experience as a Risk Manager or Claims Coordinator within a state agency.
  • Background in planning or managing risk management, safety, health, property and casualty, business continuity, or workers' compensation programs.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as ARM, CRM, or CPCU.
