Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Management Specialist to join our team at the STATE OFFICE OF RISK MANAGEMENT. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting state entities in establishing and maintaining comprehensive risk management programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the STATE OFFICE OF RISK MANAGEMENT in fulfilling statutory risk management obligations and meeting performance measures.
  • Assist state entities in developing and implementing risk management programs to mitigate losses.
  • Provide guidance and direction to state entities to help them identify, evaluate, and control risk and minimize the adverse impact of loss.
  • Conduct on-site consultations to identify hazards and risk exposures and provide written suggestions on risk prevention and control measures.
  • Administer guidelines adopted by the board for a comprehensive risk management program applicable to all state entities to reduce property and liability losses.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Experience: Risk Management Specialist II - Four years (full-time) in risk management, insurance, safety management, or a closely related area of specialization. Risk Management Specialist III – one-year additional experience (total five years) and Risk Management Specialist IV - one-year additional experience (total six years).
  • Skills in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
  • Skills in technical writing, interpreting complex rules and regulations, and working effectively with a variety of customers.
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback, work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA, lift and relocate 30 lbs, and travel (including overnight travel) up to 50%.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in risk management, insurance, or a closely related field.
  • Experience as a Risk Manager or Claims Coordinator for a Texas state agency.
  • Experience in planning or operations of risk management, safety and health, property and casualty, business continuity, and/or workers' compensation programs.
  • Professional certifications such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Risk Management Specialist (CRM), or related certifications.
