Job Description

SOLV Energy is a leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) provider for utility solar, high voltage substation, and energy storage markets across North America.


Job Summary:

The Preconstruction Project Manager will lead the Preconstruction Group's efforts, overseeing daily management, coordination, and successful completion of project scope, budget, and schedule from notice of award to project mobilization.

This role requires strong leadership skills, effective communication, and organizational abilities to manage project meetings, perform cost comparisons, update project schedules, and manage contract exhibits through execution.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of plans and specifications, field experience, and leadership ability to pull together team members from diverse backgrounds in a remote environment.

This is a Hybrid position based in the San Diego, CA office.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage project meetings and ensure timely completion of project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Perform cost comparisons and update project schedules to ensure alignment with LNTP scope, budget, and schedules.
  • Manage contract exhibits through execution and ensure procurement activities align with LNTP scope, budget, and schedules.
  • Collaborate with the business development, engineering, accounting, construction, and legal departments to create contract scopes of work.
  • Supervise and train Preconstruction Project Engineers and clerical staff.
  • Ensure procurement activities align with LNTP scope, budget, and schedules.
  • Define and create LNTPs.
  • Research and understand project-specific design requirements.
  • Liaison with the Engineering Manager to track changes that impact project schedule and/or budget.
  • Represent SOLV Energy in owner meetings.
  • Support estimating reconciliation for each design iteration.
  • Maintain timely and accurate reporting to the Project Team and management.
  • Effectively manage project risk and evaluate probability and severity of risk events.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with Owner, Engineers, Vendors, and Subcontractors.
  • Support Operations and/or Contracts Teams in negotiating final EPC budget, scope, and schedule.

Requirements:
  • Engineering, Construction Management, or Architectural degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Thorough understanding of plans and specifications.
  • Field experience (5-8 years, Project Engineer or Assistant Superintendent).
  • Leadership ability to pull together team members from diverse backgrounds in a remote environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office suite and other industry-standard tools.
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
  • Organizational and communication skills; must have strong people skills.
  • Detail-oriented, motivated self-starter.
  • Able to travel (estimated 10-20%).
  • 5+ years construction experience.
  • 2+ years scheduling and estimating experience.
