We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician III to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our industrial equipment and machinery.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure the safe operation of equipment and machinery, and the safety of others working in the immediate area.
- Operate, repair, and maintain all assigned equipment, including ammonia equipment, compressed air, dehumidification equipment, steam, cooling systems, air and water filters, plumbing, heat exchangers, water treatment, heaters, level controls, and water systems.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems, electrical controls, electric motors, pumps, gearboxes, blowers/fans, and other equipment.
- Resolve equipment malfunctions by evaluating performance breakdowns, identifying root causes, safely repairing the equipment, and taking actions to prevent recurring failures.
- Coordinate with supervisors to minimize production downtime and ensure all assigned work and preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner.
- Follow all work instructions and document all appropriate records to meet requirements set forth by OSHA, EPA, USDA, and plant management.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment.
- Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma, or Associate's Degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school is a plus.
- Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
- Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift, or scissor lift.
- Can understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend work orders, instructions, daily reports, and machine manuals.
- Ability to receive and relate orders/information using various communication devices.
- The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing the buddy system or specifically designed lifting devices.
- Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
