Position Title: Community Support Specialist

Employment Status: Full-Time - Non-Exempt
Reports To: Service Center Director

Work Schedule: To Be Determined
Supervision: Oversees Service Center volunteers

Compensation: $19.44 per hour

Benefits Overview: Eligible full-time, non-exempt employees can access a range of benefits including:

  • Comprehensive health, vision, dental, and life insurance options, including voluntary life and disability coverage.
  • Sick leave accrual of 1 day per month, totaling 12 sick days annually, starting from the date of hire.
  • Vacation benefits amounting to 10 days per year, accrued at a rate of .0385 hours for each hour worked, exclusive of overtime, with accrual beginning at hire but usage permitted only after six months of employment.
  • One floating holiday, accrued immediately and annually, but usage permitted only after the completion of the initial three-month introductory period.
  • Pension Plan eligibility after one year of continuous service.
  • Participation in a Voluntary Tax-Deferred Annuity Plan (403(b) plan).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of TSA Family Services and local social service offerings.
  • Address the needs of clients and visitors with respect and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Communicate efficiently with supervisors, volunteers, and clients.
  • Meet deadlines and perform well under pressure.
  • Exhibit strong decision-making capabilities and provide assistance without bias or discrimination.
  • Handle phone inquiries and email communications, providing information to callers and walk-in clients.
  • Assess client needs, determine eligibility for emergency assistance according to TSA guidelines, and prepare comprehensive case information sheets.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely payment processing by obtaining necessary documentation.
  • Prepare all required paperwork and vouchers, including supporting documents for audits, and submit to the Finance Department for payment.
  • Assist in compiling reports, statistics, and payment requests for the Finance Department.
  • Understand TSA procedures and programs while assisting with record-keeping.
  • Obtain consent to verify, release, and share client information.
  • Participate in community planning and fundraising initiatives that benefit both the community and The Salvation Army's mission.
  • Maintain and update client information in relevant software and case records accurately and promptly.
  • Manage volunteer activities, including enrollment, training, and supervision.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with partners, vendors, and donors.
  • Identify additional resources and make appropriate referrals.
  • Input data for case files.
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned by the Service Center Director and SE Director.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor and serve as a Christian role model for clients, guests, and volunteers.

Qualifications and Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma with a minimum of two years of experience in a related field or professional experience in human services.
  • Strong skills in communication, writing, budgeting/accounting, and record-keeping, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, agencies, and the public while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with a working knowledge of integrated database applications and the ability to learn new software with basic training.

Ability to perform various physical activities including walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting on an intermittent or continuous basis.
