Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the instruction and supervision of special needs students, including monitoring student behavior during instructional and non-instructional times.
  • Provide information to appropriate school personnel, including attending IEP meetings if requested.
  • Implement skilled interventions under the direction of the classroom teacher or related service provider.
  • Administer first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional.
  • Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Implement behavioral plans and skilled interventions designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods within various school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provide instruction to students in individual and group activities, including academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills.
  • Assist students with self-care activities, including toileting, washing, and dressing.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. to help special education students.
  • Maintain instructional materials and files/records, including decorating bulletin boards and correcting papers.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
Requirements
  • Age 18+
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Job-related experience is desired
  • Specific training may be required
