Job Summary

The Manager, Revenue Cycle Central Business Office (CBO) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of assigned staff within CBO for UVA Health. This role ensures that assigned staff meet or exceed service goals, requiring critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. The Manager serves as a liaison to facility leadership related to Billing and Collections activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned staff within CBO and oversee all Revenue Cycle Billing and Collections related A/R activities for assigned facilities for UVA Health.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interactions with internal and external customers to CBO, making primary decisions regarding collection activities with third-party insurance and guarantors.
  • Ensure compliance with state law mandates on collections associated with the Medical Center's status as an agency of the Commonwealth.
  • Plan and implement unit strategies, systems, and processes for effective organization and supervision of assigned employees and resources within the CBO.
  • Ensure an optimum environment for efficient collections of accounts and be responsible for ensuring that the quality and quantity of contacts meet/exceed service goals.
  • Respond to all inquiries in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner, driving improvement in customer satisfaction, employee development and retention, and overall operational efficiencies.
  • Assure the integrity of all processes (both automated and manual) related to account timelines, write-offs, account placements with vendors (and returns), and performance accountability of all associated vendor relationships and internal staff.
  • Formalize and implement corrective action plans to address areas of concern with specific facilities A/R.
  • Identify areas for improvement applicable to A/R performance within all or one facility included in the CBO.
  • Communicate any issues of concern with respect to the client's responsibilities in the revenue cycle management process.
  • Accountable for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for assigned area(s).
  • Assist team members with working a client's account as needed, including but not limited to denials, rejections, claim files issues, and review codes.
  • Identify trends affecting the CBO's A/R and facilities-specific metrics; collaborate with the operational team to ensure the overall health of the assigned facilities.
  • Assist with team development, including ongoing mentoring and training.
  • Pursue continuing education of applicable software and hardware as necessary.
  • Keep current on payment trends and coding changes as well as payer requirement changes.
  • Participate in departmental and other meetings as requested.
  • Assist with creating procedures/process documentation.
  • Communicate all A/R issues, including enhancement requests, defects, and inquiries, to internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with external and internal customers.
  • Develop a reputation as an industry expert and trusted advisor on revenue cycle and management processes for given specialty areas of focus.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties assigned as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree required, or obtained within 4 years, or 15 years of academic healthcare experience in lieu of Bachelor degree.
  • 7 years of management and/or supervisory experience in healthcare or similar customer-oriented business.
Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
