The Heavy Equipment Technician will possess expertise in general upkeep, repair, and diagnostic assessment of various types of trucks and machinery. A solid understanding of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and pumps is essential. Familiarity with drilling rigs and associated equipment is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate all repair requests, provide recommendations, acquire pricing, and discuss alternatives with the Shop Manager as needed for repair completion.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on all drilling rigs, trucks, trailers, and other machinery.
- Complete documentation for all repairs and maintenance activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Perform inspections every 90 days and annually on all drilling rigs, trucks, trailers, and other equipment, adhering to DOT regulations.
- Regularly inspect and assess the physical condition of equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Oversee and direct field testing for all completed work requests, effectively communicating results to the initial requestor and Shop Supervisor or Operations Manager.
- Maintain accurate notification and documentation of all vehicle downtime, repairs, and resolutions, ensuring proper file management.
- Order materials, parts, and supplies as necessary.
- Ensure that rigs and equipment are maintained in optimal working condition.
- Document any exceptions and forward them to the Administrative Assistant for computer entry.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms.
- Adhere to all safety practices, policies, procedures, and governmental regulations while performing duties.
- Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds throughout the workday.
- Understanding of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, welding, and fabrication techniques.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations is a plus.
- Willingness to work overtime and various shifts as required.
- Proficient in the use of power and hand tools, as well as diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend manufacturer repair manuals.
- Competency in computer usage.
