Certified Heavy Vehicle Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Heavy Vehicle Technician to join our team at the City of Madison. As a key member of our transit department, you will be responsible for performing routine, preventive, and repair work on diesel, hybrid, and electric motor coaches.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and experience in auto, diesel, construction, agriculture, or other related heavy equipment technical fields. A minimum of six months of technical experience is required, or six months of education in auto or diesel mechanics can be substituted for the experience.
As a Certified Heavy Vehicle Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks, including bus preventive maintenance, service vehicles, fare box preventive maintenance, air-conditioning preventive maintenance, and more. You will also be required to maintain a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and passenger and air brake endorsement permit and road tests during training.
We offer a competitive salary, with a minimum starting salary of $59,491.12 annually, which may increase based on qualifying experience and/or education. Overtime hours may be available, and employees may be eligible for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Our ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a multicultural environment, and be able to pass the Metro physical with either a one-time 2-year certification or re-certifications for a 2-year period.
