Business Lending Officer

Position Overview:

The Business Lending Officer will collaborate closely with the Commercial Loan Manager to oversee the management of the commercial loan portfolio. This portfolio encompasses income-generating properties across various sectors, including commercial and multifamily loans, as well as other commercial loans secured by real estate or alternative collateral.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage approved categories of Commercial loans, including Commercial Real Estate loans, while adhering to the Bank's lending objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage with current and potential clients regarding commercial loans and mortgages, providing insights into available options and programs, and gathering necessary financial documentation.
  • Address daily inquiries from clients about lending programs, evaluate prospective loan applications, and conduct reviews of loan submissions.
  • Offer support and guidance to Commercial loan processors and Pre-closing staff on issues related to processing and closing.

Coordinate the processing of commercial loans and real estate mortgage applications under the officer's purview. Maintain effective communication with borrowers and their representatives concerning property, credit, underwriting, and processing matters.


  • Conduct underwriting and analysis of commercial loan applications, ensuring compliance with credit and underwriting standards and lending policies.

Assist in preparing Loan Presentations, which include credit and collateral assessments, debt service ratios, and Loan Contingencies. The lending officer must promptly inform the Commercial Loan Department Manager of any significant risk factors or discrepancies identified during the loan processing and underwriting phases.


  • Prepare necessary documentation such as Greenlight Memorandums, CAM Requests, and CAM Amendments to facilitate the underwriting process.
  • Ensure compliance with various laws and regulations affecting the banking and lending industry.
  • Oversee the review and signing of commitment letters and manage other administrative and operational matters.

The officer is also accountable for the accuracy and thoroughness of underwriting, analysis, and commitment letters.


  • Monitor the loan closing process, collaborating with attorneys and closing agents to resolve title and contingency issues.
  • Assist in loan production and related activities, including loan collections, foreclosures, and audits.
  • Process and recommend loan assumptions and modifications as necessary.

Additionally, oversee construction loans if assigned.

This role requires adherence to established principles, methods, and policies, as well as existing precedents in the relevant area of expertise.

Consequences of Errors:

Errors in this position could undermine customer trust and have significant financial implications for the Bank, potentially leading to client complaints and impacting compliance and audit outcomes.


Communication Skills:

This position necessitates ongoing communication with both internal and external clients.


Physical Requirements:

The physical demands for this role are representative of those required to successfully perform essential functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. The role primarily involves sitting, with some repetitive arm movements, and requires specific vision capabilities, including close and distance vision. The ability to lift boxes weighing up to 10 pounds is also necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a financial institution or related field, with knowledge of marketing, credit analysis, and lending practices.
  • Familiarity with laws, rules, and regulations governing the banking and lending sectors.
  • Strong understanding of financial institution products and services.
  • Excellent mathematical, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in using computers and office software.

Work Environment:

This role is based in an office environment with comfortable conditions. Employees may encounter external elements while representing the company at events and may be required to work extended hours, including holidays, for company-related activities.
