Job Summary

The Childcare Assistant is responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for children, supporting the Child Care Supervisor, and contributing to the overall success of the YWCA Child Care Program.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement age-appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in children.
  2. Support the Child Care Supervisor in ensuring daily site procedures are followed, including attendance, snack procedures, lesson planning, and cleaning.
  3. Maintain positive interactions with children, greet parents and children daily, and create a welcoming atmosphere.
  4. Deliver the program in a positive environment of safety, support, and care, aligning with the Child Care Program purpose.
  5. Enforce school policies and site rules, using positive techniques to guide children's behavior.
  6. Read weekly meeting notes and communication log books to stay informed.
  7. Maintain the YWCA Child Care Program licensure, complying with state licensing regulations, Department of Public Instruction Guidelines, and Young Star.
  8. Assist with lesson planning, organizing, and cleaning the site storage area.
  9. Participate in setting up parent events, such as open houses, conferences, and talent shows.
  10. Attend staff, departmental, and YWCA meetings as assigned.
  11. Maintain familiarity with YWCA goals, mission, and programs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; advanced degree in child development preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience working with children.
  • Completed 10 hours training in the care of school-age children or equivalent, as approved by Wisconsin DPI, or be willing to complete within 6 months of hire.
  • CPR and AED certification.
  • Ability to provide a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for children.
  • Detail-oriented with good communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop a team approach with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; enthusiastic, warm, and approachable.
  • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
  • Good judgment when making decisions.
