RTA US is seeking a skilled Geographic Information Systems Competition Specialist to support our client in the renewable energy sector. This role is designed for a professional who is passionate about utilizing GIS technology to drive business development initiatives.
Contract Duration: 9 Months
Work Arrangement: Remote within the United States
Compensation: $35-45/hour, dependent on experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various teams within the Business Development division, including Project Development, Environmental & Permitting, Meteorology, Real Estate, and Acquisitions & Structuring.
- Deliver GIS and cartographic assistance to Business Development, ensuring the creation of high-quality production maps.
- Develop and modify precise GIS data while maintaining comprehensive spatial databases.
- Investigate and assess both public and private datasets to guide the siting of renewable energy projects.
- Conduct thorough research on industry competition, including project statuses, interconnection requests, ownership structures, and energy market dynamics; analyze environmental and site-specific constraints, zoning and permitting regulations, and transmission capacities to evaluate project viability and economic feasibility.
- Examine government records and online databases to ascertain land interests.
- Incorporate research outcomes into GIS and tabular databases for spatial analysis by the competition analyst.
- Prepare and present deliverables to key decision-makers and relevant bodies.
- Analyze data provided by development managers and land acquisition agents regarding trusts, probates, corporate entities, and conveyance documents to confirm contract execution authority.
- Collaborate with a software development team to assist in testing applications and tools aimed at streamlining workflows.
- Provide training to new team members on competition analysis processes.
- Engage directly with project developers to address inquiries and facilitate their requests.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Renewable Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficient in Esri ArcGIS desktop software, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, and Portal.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS, utilizing applications such as ArcGIS and related extensions, along with a solid understanding of GIS functionalities.
- Preferred experience in renewable energy development, project evaluation, siting, regional transmission grids, real estate and land records, local and state permitting, environmental studies, and economics.
- Experience in design, development, and debugging is advantageous.
