Position Title: Pre-Registration Specialist

Department: Full Time

Position Overview:

The Pre-Registration Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare process by identifying patients eligible for pre-registration, which includes both new and returning patients.

This position is tasked with collecting identification to ensure the accuracy of demographic and insurance details, entering all relevant information into the registration system.

The specialist is also responsible for pre-service collections and documentation as necessary. This role encompasses verification and pre-certification, along with the notification and authorization of all admissions and outpatient visits.

For all sponsored admissions, the specialist will liaise with patients' employers and/or insurance providers to confirm coverage and benefits, ascertain benefit levels, patient liabilities, and billing addresses.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate daily reports to identify un-contacted patients prior to service.
  • Utilize worklists to facilitate the pre-registration and pre-certification of hospital services.
  • Conduct telephone interviews with patients to gather essential demographic information and third-party payer data required for billing.
  • Input patient data directly into registration systems, ensuring the completion of the MSPQ when applicable.
  • Verify dependent eligibility, certificate and group numbers, co-payment and deductible amounts, and statement mailing addresses with third-party payors.
  • Adhere to Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with clinics, hospital ancillary departments, and patient financial advisors regarding potential insurance coverage complications.
  • Secure accounts in accordance with established departmental policies, which may involve contacting patients, responsible payers, and referring uninsured or underinsured accounts to Financial Advisors.
  • Promptly inform provider offices of any restrictions that may deny services, such as issues obtaining pre-certification or any lock-in programs.

The specialist must possess the ability to perform the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required for the assigned unit or department.

Required Qualifications:
High School Graduate or GED.

Preferred Qualifications:
1 or more years of experience with Epic.
1 or more years of prior experience in pre-registration or prior authorization.
