GENERAL JOB FUNCTION
The Calibration Specialist is tasked with the upkeep, assessment, and calibration of a diverse range of
instruments and apparatus; Ensures that all measuring devices and testing instruments are calibrated
accurately to provide reliable readings. Adheres to the Policy and Quality Manual (QM), Description
of the Calibration System (CSD) of Micro Precision and the internal operational guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for calibrating a variety of testing instruments across multiple skill areas, including:
- Electrical Equipment
- Dimensional Equipment
- Industrial / Mechanical Equipment
- Temperature Equipment
- RF/Optical Equipment
Calibration Process
- Conducts preliminary evaluations and inspections on all customer equipment, including visual checks, cleaning, functional assessments, and self-testing.
- Ensures that maintenance, minor repairs, and calibration of equipment are executed and finalized according to the established schedule, in line with customer specifications and requirements.
- Communicates the status and necessary calibration updates to relevant personnel or teams promptly; regularly collaborates with fellow technicians.
- Analyzes data, computes uncertainties, uploads data, and generates reports.
- Ensures adherence to quality standards based on existing and approved quality procedures.
- Verifies that environmental conditions are suitable for the tasks performed both in-house and at customer locations.
- Confirms that the calibration procedure version used is the most current and appropriate for the instrument being tested.
- Safely transports instruments (both customer and company-owned), including reference standards, materials, software, and hardware, ensuring that accuracy is not compromised.
- Informs the Quality Assurance Manager, customer, Division Manager, and Sales Manager if an instrument is lost, damaged, or stolen while under the care of Micro Precision.
- Ensures that the nomenclature and identification of instruments are accurate and complete in the Calibration Management System (CMS), matching instrument identification.
- Ensures that calibration certificates contain precise information and that all required client information is documented in the report.
- Verifies reported results, utilized calibration procedures, approved functions, reference standards, and identification of traceable patterns for accuracy and reproducibility.
Other Responsibilities
- Performs standard maintenance and checks of company standards as assigned by the Lab Manager.
- May work in-house, locally, or travel regionally to perform calibration tasks as directed by the Lab Manager.
- Continues to receive training in all aspects of Micro Precision Calibration Services and shares acquired knowledge and best practices with team members.
- Collaborates with the Department to set general goals and develops, supports, and implements plans to achieve identified targets; recommends improvements to enhance current operations and related processes.
- Observes safety protocols and quality standards in task performance, complying with company directives and policies; maintains proper communication practices and manages confidentiality of information within and outside the team.
QUALIFICATIONS
The professional qualifications and experience necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
Education:
- Educational background in Technical or related fields, preferably in Calibration, Instrumentation, Electronics, or equivalent.
Work Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in electronic technology; mechanical/dimensional technology for mechanical roles.
- Experience with basic instrumentation and manual tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exhibits strong verbal communication and written skills.
- Knowledgeable in calibration procedures, uncertainty computation, and computer applications.
- Possesses a keen eye for quality and detail, along with basic problem-solving skills.
- Familiar with techniques and tools associated with ISO/IEC 17025.
- A team player, trustworthy, service-oriented, and capable of managing priorities.
