Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to join our team at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and The Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (ALTSA). The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Communications Team and overseeing the development, implementation, and coordination of all internal and external communications for ALTSA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to promote the mission and goals of ALTSA
  • Lead the Communications Team and supervise a team of six professionals
  • Collaborate with senior management to provide advice and guidance on communication activities
  • Develop and oversee all written communication and talking points for the Assistant and Deputy Assistant Secretary's internal and external messaging
  • Lead high-level creation, oversight, and coordination of all multimedia communications for ALTSA HQ
  • Participate as a representative in DSHS-wide communications activities
  • Provide oversight on high-level communications
  • Recruit, hire, and collaborate with direct reports
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in community relations, communications, journalism, public administration, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations at an increasingly challenging and accountable level
  • Ability to conduct and interpret research and provide advice and guidance to senior management
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience managing professional-level positions, especially in marketing and communications
  • Advanced journalism, public relations, marketing, and digital communications skills
  • Experience developing creative assets using Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in advanced management principles
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of long-term care terminology and ability to access information to produce clearly understood communications
  • Knowledge of the operation and provision of services for people with disabilities or who face challenges of aging
  • Experience working with state and federal Medicaid laws, regulations, and policies related to long-term care Medicaid programs
  • Understanding of DSHS and the political climate to make decisions and communicate clearly to different populations with diverse interests
