Surgical Technologist Level II

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist Level II to join our team in Fontana, California.
Job Summary:The Surgical Technologist Level II works under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician and is responsible for providing high-quality patient care during surgical procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Participate in surgical procedures as a member of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies as directed.
- Assist in tissue retraction and limb support, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients.
- Ensure instruments are clean and functioning properly, requesting additional supplies as needed.
- Assist the surgeon during closing, suturing, stapling, cauterizing, and bandaging patients.
- Transport patients and assist with lifting patients for procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Assemble surgical specialty beds with correct attachments to ensure patient safety.
- Complete necessary arrangements to set up the operating room prior to surgical procedures, laying out instruments, surgical trays, and assembling equipment as required.
- Verify package integrity and external sterile indicators prior to opening and internal sterile indicators prior to use of supplies and instruments.
- Handle controlled and non-controlled medications, preparing and labeling them for use during surgery.
- Coordinate with vendors, surgeons, and other departments to ensure the smooth operation of the operating room.
- Maintain and ensure operational readiness of instruments and equipment, departmental supplies, and sterilized items.
- Check for outdated supplies and ensure correct counting of instruments, needles, and/or sharps before, during, and at closure of patient.
- Anticipate needs for intraoperative supplies, equipment, and needs of surgeons in a timely manner.
- Operate a variety of equipment as directed, checking for outdated equipment and reporting as needed.
- Maintain sterility of the surgical field by continuous observation of staff and equipment, sterilizing needed instruments with rapid cycle sterilization.
- Contain used sharps on the sterile field in a designated disposable, puncture-resistant needle container and replace as necessary.
- Prepare and handle patient specimens, assuring proper labeling of patient and all specimens.
- Comply with Standard Precautions (Blood Borne Pathogen standards) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Provide guidance throughout the case for physician assistants, medical students, registered nurses, orthopedic technicians, and surgeons on the use of equipment.
- May perform patient care functions such as patient prepping, positioning patient, and holding patient during surgical case, ensuring patient safety at all times.
- Maintain specialty carts for each service, testing and calibrating any and all equipment as needed, and stocking rooms daily.
- Assist team members with gowning and gloving, helping in a Circulator role and Anesthesia Tech role, and assisting Anesthesia with spinals, leads, blood vials, medications, and removal of airway stylet.
- During a code, assist surgeon, RN, and Anesthesia in any way qualified.
- Clean the operating room after surgical procedures, removing and disposing of contaminated instruments, disassembling instruments for sterilization as required.
- Inspect the used surgical setup for sharps, ensuring the sharps container is not full before discarding disposables.
- Two (2) years of Operating Room scrub experience within the last three (3) years and competency scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures.
- National Center for Competency Testing Certificate - Technologist in Surgery from National Center for Competency Testing OR Surgical Technologist Certificate from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
- Basic Life Support.
