Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Orthopedic Technician to join our team at Highmark Health. As an Orthopedic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing medical and clerical support to our physicians and extenders in various orthopedic practice locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and extenders in providing medical and clerical support, including wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopedic casts/splints, and drawing up injections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy for PRP, and assisting with ultrasound procedures.
  • Coordinate patient care under the supervision of the assigned healthcare provider, preparing and rooming patients within the clinical practice setting, accurately interviewing patients, and ordering radiographs according to physician protocols.
  • Accurately document all pertinent details in the electronic health record, reviewing and updating the allergy and medication list, social, medical, and surgical history, and pain screening.
  • Function as a scribe to the provider when needed to maintain clinic workflow, performing pre-visit chart management tasks, and scanning pertinent findings from outside information to physicians and staff as necessary.
  • Educate patients on proper wound and pin care, cast care, and postoperative care, according to provider instruction and standards.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies, and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Travel to various satellite locations to support assigned physicians, performing other duties as assigned when needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proof of graduation from an AHN-approved Medical Assistant School within five years of application or proof of one year of work experience as a clinical MA in the last three years
  • Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) will also be considered for this position
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years' experience as an Ortho Technician, Medical Assistant, or Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC)
