Job Summary

This Corporate Counsel position is a key role in AbbVie's Global Brands team, responsible for advising on various international healthcare-related legal issues. The successful candidate will provide strategic and legal counsel to Marketing, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Regulatory Affairs departments, focusing on laws, regulations, and codes of ethics related to advertising and promotion, antitrust, healthcare fraud & abuse, and anti-bribery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide in-depth substantive advice to business clients and senior legal management on core international and key markets' national laws and regulations, focusing on areas of promotion, patient support, payer access, go-to-market strategies, labeling, and scientific exchange.
  • Identify and anticipate risks and opportunities, devising appropriate business-oriented solutions to maximize market access and brand strategies outside of the US.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on assigned brands and projects, educating, informing, or guiding the team as appropriate, while staying connected with US brand Legal to provide consistent counsel across the organization.
  • Develop knowledge of AbbVie's business and supported client areas, as well as the market access environment of AbbVie's global key markets, keeping abreast of changes in laws that affect client areas.
  • Resolve routine to highly complex legal matters in practice areas without supervision, using negotiation skills and legal expertise, guiding and coordinating legal support to affiliate lawyers where required on assigned projects.
  • Identify complex to highly complex legal issues related to assigned significant strategic matters, proposing solutions and aligning on business and legal high-risk matters with maturity to challenge, enable, or escalate as needed.
  • Manage, coach, and oversee one direct report, selecting and directing the work of outside counsel, defining project objectives, managing project and budget, and working cross-functionally to find solutions for business clients consistent with the law, policies/procedures, and AbbVie's Code of Conduct.
Qualifications
  • J.D. required (United States) or Law degree from a relevant jurisdiction.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience, with previous pharma experience and exposure to international or major markets outside of the US strongly preferred.
  • Experience with country-specific or international Market Access/Managed Health Care matters is desirable.
  • Experience in supporting senior business leaders.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, as well as a strong sense of agility, independent decision-making, and integrity, with proven ability to work effectively in diverse and cross-border teams.
