About the Role

Balfour Beatty US is seeking a skilled Estimator I to join our Education/Public Sector team in Dallas, TX. As a member of the preconstruction/estimating team, this individual will be responsible for independently preparing sections of schematic, design development, and construction document estimates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs using company format, detail, and coding for all levels of project documents.
  • Provide information to senior estimators/senior preconstruction managers for the purpose of developing accurate and concise clarifications and assumptions with project management team's assistance.

  • Solicit and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
  • Attend project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
  • Develop unit costs accurately.
  • Develop value management skills and learn how to implement cost savings methods.
  • Perform technical/plan review when required.
  • Consider and understand problems, and identify appropriate solutions.
  • Develop knowledge in building designs, systems, and construction materials through available resources.
  • Accurately assess and plan takeoff workload.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or 2 years relative work experience.
  • Computer skills including the ability to use estimating software (like MC2), word processing, spreadsheets, bid management, online plan rooms, and database applications.
  • Experience with computer software programs used in pre-construction with particular emphasis on estimating software (e.g. MC2, On-Screen Takeoff, Paydirt, Constructware, and?SqFt).
  • Knowledgeable in the majority or all of the following: civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, interior finishes, exterior building wall systems, mechanical and electrical systems, and the costs of these systems.
