Job Opportunity:

The Law Enforcement Defense Division (LEDD) of the Office of the Attorney General is seeking a licensed attorney to represent the state's law enforcement agencies and their officials & employees in civil proceedings in both federal and state court.

The ideal candidate will have a robust litigation practice, including motion and discovery practice, jury trial experience, and the ability to handle matters at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and state courts of appeals.

As a member of the LEDD team, you will gain valuable trial experience, work with a collegial team of 25+ enthusiastic litigators, and enjoy excellent benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in defense of lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in both state and federal court.

• Handle all aspects of litigation, including legal research and memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions, hearings, mediations, trials, and post-trial debriefings.

• Provide excellent client service and function well with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment.

• Provide legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and law enforcement entities.

• Perform related work as assigned and maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.

Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

• Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

• One year of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working civil litigation for the Assistant Attorney General II position.

• Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment, provide excellent customer service, and work more than 40 hours as needed.

• Ability to travel up to 25% and lift and relocate 30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two years as a licensed attorney practicing in civil litigation.

• Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court.

• Exceptional academic credentials and law school mock trial experience.
