Position Summary:

The role of the Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) Specialist is crucial for maintaining compliance with EHS programs across all departments at the Iovance Cell Therapy Center (iCTC). This position is responsible for integrating EHS protocols into daily operations to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and continuous performance enhancement, aligning with the overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, as well as internal policies.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training materials related to EHS policies and procedures.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs) and safety inspections; assist with industrial hygiene monitoring and environmental reporting.
  • Oversee hazardous and biohazardous waste management, ensuring proper handling and documentation.
  • Engage in EHS operational discussions, safety committees, and audits to promote a culture of safety.
  • Review processes and documentation to ensure compliance with recognized EHS standards.
  • Support staff in injury and illness investigations, providing additional training and addressing concerns.
  • Participate in regulatory inspections and assist in resolving any noted issues.
  • Analyze site data for the EHS reporting system, identifying gaps and generating reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

Travel may be necessary based on business needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of direct experience in occupational safety.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations, including CDC and NIH guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CIH or CSP certification is a plus.
  • First Aid, EMT, or Paramedic certification is desirable.
  • Familiarity with six-sigma methodologies and operational excellence.
  • Experience in GMP environments and biotechnology processes is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory issues and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS management software.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and clean room attire.
  • Must meet requirements for respiratory protection.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • This position involves working in both office and laboratory settings, with potential exposure to various chemicals and biological materials.
  • Must be able to work in cleanroom environments with biohazards and human blood components.
