Job Title: Processing Archivist, Digital Collections

The National WWII Museum is seeking a highly skilled Processing Archivist to join its Collections & Exhibits team. As a key member of the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the cataloging of the Museum's diverse collection materials, including photographs, archival collections, artifacts, non-accessioned digital archives, and time-based media.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership and Management: Lead the management of digital collections by establishing, documenting, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Digitization and Image Production: Develop and optimize workflows for digitization and digital image production via scanning.
  • Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and mentor digitization staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers, ensuring high productivity and adherence to standards.
Quality Assurance:
  • Digitization and Photography Standards: Enforce digitization and photography standards across all projects.
  • Metadata Quality Control: Provide quality control for all metadata to ensure accuracy and consistency institution-wide.
  • Metadata Tools and Taxonomies: Develop and manage metadata tools, naming taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies.
Cataloging and Metadata:
  • Metadata Creation and Cataloging: Oversee the creation and cataloging of metadata for both analog and digital media.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise staff in cataloging and metadata creation, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
Collection Management:
  • Asset Upgrades and Organization: Assist in upgrading existing assets to appropriate standards, including reorganization of file directories and metadata cleanup.
  • Record Keeping and Storage: Ensure proper record keeping, storage, maintenance, and retrieval of digital collections.
Access and Rights Management:
  • Collection Access: Facilitate access to collections by responding to requests from the public, staff, and other institutions.
  • Rights and Reproduction Management: Collaborate with the Digital Collections Rights Manager to manage internal and external rights and reproduction requests.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in History, Library and Information Science, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in a museum, archives, or library image archive. Strong written communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage complex projects and lead teams in a fast-paced environment, are essential.
