Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly qualified and knowledgeable Linux Systems Engineer to contribute to our operations in a secure environment. The successful candidate will oversee the management and upkeep of Linux-based infrastructures, ensuring optimal stability, security, and performance. This role demands a proactive approach to systems management, emphasizing the enhancement of system operations, task automation, and support for critical applications. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, possessing an active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph is essential.

Core Responsibilities:

  • System Management: Conduct daily oversight of Linux servers, including installation, configuration, patching, and monitoring to guarantee peak system performance and uptime.
  • Security Oversight: Enforce and uphold security best practices across all Linux systems, including access control, encryption, and adherence to relevant security policies and standards.
  • Automation & Scripting: Create and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages to automate routine tasks, enhance system efficiency, and minimize manual intervention.
  • Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Observe system performance, identify potential issues, and troubleshoot problems to ensure minimal downtime and disruption to essential services.
  • User & Access Control: Administer user accounts, permissions, and roles in a secure environment, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to sensitive data and systems.
  • Data Backup & Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery protocols, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of system failure or data loss.
  • Networking & Security: Configure and manage network services, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, to secure and optimize network traffic.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes to ensure clarity and continuity in system management.

Qualifications:

  • Linux Proficiency: Extensive experience managing Linux systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) in an enterprise setting.
  • System & Network Security: Strong grasp of security principles, including access controls, encryption, and secure network configurations.
  • Automation Expertise: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl to automate system administration tasks.
  • System Monitoring & Performance Optimization: Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and techniques for enhancing system performance.
  • Backup & Recovery Knowledge: Familiarity with backup tools and best practices for data recovery in Linux environments.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of networking principles, including IP addressing, routing, VPNs, and firewall management.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent troubleshooting abilities with the capacity to resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Documentation Skills: Strong documentation capabilities to record system configurations, procedures, and changes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Virtualization Experience: Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Docker) to manage virtualized Linux environments.
  • Configuration Management: Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Puppet, Ansible) to automate system configuration and deployment.
  • Cloud Services Experience: Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid cloud deployments in a secure context.

  • Security Clearance: This position necessitates an active TS/SCI with Full-Scope Polygraph.
