Position Overview:

We are seeking a proficient and knowledgeable Linux Systems Engineer to contribute to a high-security operational environment. The selected candidate will oversee the management and upkeep of Linux-based infrastructures, ensuring their reliability, security, and efficiency. This role demands a proactive approach to systems management, with an emphasis on enhancing system functionality, automating processes, and supporting a variety of critical applications. Due to the sensitive nature of the operations, an active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Management: Conduct daily oversight of Linux servers, including installation, configuration, updates, and monitoring to guarantee optimal performance and uptime.
  • Security Oversight: Enforce and uphold security best practices across all Linux systems, including access management, encryption, and adherence to relevant security protocols and standards.
  • Automation & Scripting: Create and maintain scripts using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages to automate routine operations, enhance system efficiency, and minimize manual tasks.
  • Monitoring & Issue Resolution: Track system performance, identify potential issues, and resolve problems to ensure minimal disruption to essential services.
  • User & Access Control: Oversee user accounts, permissions, and roles in a secure environment, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive information and systems.
  • Data Backup & Recovery: Develop and manage backup and recovery strategies, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of system failures or data loss.
  • Networking & Security Management: Configure and oversee network services, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems, to secure and optimize network traffic.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, procedures, and modifications to ensure clarity and continuity in system management.

Qualifications:

  • Linux Proficiency: Extensive experience managing Linux systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu) in a corporate environment.
  • System & Network Security Knowledge: Strong grasp of security principles, including access controls, encryption, and secure network configurations.
  • Automation Expertise: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automating system administration tasks.
  • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and techniques for enhancing system performance.
  • Backup & Recovery Skills: Familiarity with backup tools and best practices for data recovery in Linux environments.
  • Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of networking principles, including IP addressing, routing, VPNs, and firewall management.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting abilities with the capacity to resolve complex technical challenges efficiently.
  • Documentation Skills: Strong documentation capabilities to record system configurations, procedures, and changes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Virtualization Experience: Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Docker) for managing virtualized Linux environments.
