Role Summary

UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is seeking a Full-Time Surgical Technologist to join our Weekend Program. This role requires 6 months of experience and a commitment to work 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend. The position offers full-time benefits and a 20% differential.

About the Role

We have a 17-suite operating room that offers a wide variety of specialties, including Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma, and more. Our team provides high-quality care for both elective and urgent patients, from infant to geriatric. You will have the opportunity to work with world-class surgeons and anesthesiologists from across the country.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery.
  • Assist in the preparation, care, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Apply dressings and assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
  • After surgery, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
Requirements
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • Entry-level job with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Surgical specialties include general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement, and endoscopic surgical settings.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Benefits

This role offers a generous sign-on bonus for full-time Surgical Technologists. The amount of the bonus will depend on years of experience, as outlined below:

  • 0-1 years of experience: 2-year commitment $10,000; 3-year commitment $12,000
  • 1-2 years of experience: 2-year commitment $12,000; 3-year commitment $17,000
  • 2+ years of experience: 2-year commitment $15,000; 3-year commitment $25,000
