Operating Room Surgical Technologist Job Description

UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures by setting up sterile equipment and supplies.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures to the surgeon and surgical assistants.
  • Help maintain a clean and safe environment by disposing of waste and cleaning equipment.
  • Assist with patient preparation, including washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room and assist with positioning them on the operating table.
  • Apply sterile surgical drapes and assist with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
  • Help transfer patients to the recovery room after surgery.
  • Restock operating room supplies and equipment.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a surgical setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies as needed.
