Job Title: Surgical Technologist Operating Room

UPMC Hamot's Operating Room is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team in a Weekend Program. This is a full-time position that requires 6 months of experience and involves working 48 weekends per year, 24 hours per weekend. The successful candidate will be eligible for full-time benefits and a 20% differential.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a 17-suite operating room that offers a wide range of specialties, including Robotics, Kidney Transplants, Trauma, and more. As a Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for assisting the surgical team in preparing the operating room, setting up surgical instruments and equipment, and passing instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants. You will also be responsible for ensuring a clean and safe environment through continued alertness to safety and explosive hazards and aseptic technique.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery.
  • Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
  • Apply dressings and assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves.
  • After surgery, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room and help position them on the operating table.
Requirements
  • Completion of a formal surgical technician program offered by a community or junior college, vocational school, university, hospital, or the military.
  • Entry-level job with 0-2 years of experience.
  • Surgical specialties include but are not limited to: general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement, and endoscopic surgical settings.
  • Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
