Our focus is on producing exceptional trade books that resonate with the varied interests and concerns of evangelical audiences.
About the Role:
We are in search of a Lead Acquisitions Editor to join the Baker Books team. The ideal candidate will possess a robust history of strategically sourcing and refining titles within the Christian living genre. Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with authors and literary agents.
- Assessing and presenting book proposals effectively.
- Negotiating essential deal terms and reviewing contracts.
- Conducting substantive edits on manuscripts.
- Collaborating with editorial, marketing, rights, and sales teams to successfully bring innovative ideas to publication.
The individual in this role will report to the Editorial Director of Baker Books and will be tasked with acquiring and launching 15 high-quality projects annually. The position may be based remotely for qualified candidates, and travel will be necessary.
Qualifications:
- Over 5 years of experience in book publishing, developmental editing, and acquisitions.
- A deep understanding of the Christian living genre with a proven track record in acquiring titles.
- An established network of author and agent connections, demonstrating effective networking abilities.
- A comprehensive understanding of the Bible, theology, and the evangelical readership.
- Strong familiarity with the Christian market and publishing industry.
- Negotiation expertise and knowledge of publishing contracts and profit and loss statements.
- Proven capability to identify successful publishing initiatives that align with our mission and financial objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Highly self-driven with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and meet deadlines.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a full-time position, benefits include health, dental, group life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, 401(k), and additional perks.
