Job Purpose: The job of the Substitute Educational Assistant is to provide support to special education students during transportation to and from school, while also assisting with their health care and behavioral needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist bus drivers in maintaining order and minimizing disruptive activity on the school bus.
  • Assess special education students for the purpose of providing health care and other special needs during transport.
  • Clean assigned vehicles to maintain their appearance, sanitation, and safety.
  • Instruct special education students to enforce rules and regulations and maintain safety.
  • Prepare documentation to provide written support and/or convey information.

Requirements:

  • Job-related experience.
  • Skills to operate standard office equipment, provide special health care needs of students, and communicate effectively with students and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operation and special health care requirements.
  • Abilities to understand and address students with special needs, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Education and Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Drug Testing Clearance.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Right Response Certification (or willingness to obtain and maintain).
