Infrastructure Systems Engineer


Air Traffic Engineering Co LLC dba ATEC is seeking a qualified professional to undertake System Administrator responsibilities within the Weather Message Switching Center Replacement (WMSCR) initiative for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver second-level engineering assistance for WMSCR.
  • Facilitate system development, testing, integration, and deployment activities for WMSCR.
  • Provision, install, configure, monitor, and maintain the hardware and software infrastructure of Linux systems.
  • Create and manage Linux shell scripts to aid in application software testing and administration.
  • Conduct ongoing performance tuning, hardware and software upgrades, and resource optimization as necessary.
  • Diagnose software issues within Linux environments.
  • Comprehend IP addressing and configurations for all networks, ensuring established and available subnets are utilized.
  • Possess a technical understanding of VMWare environments.
  • Review and provide feedback on system engineering documents, including system requirements and testing documents.
  • Participate in system design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and other relevant meetings to support the program and team.
  • Understand Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Java Message Service (JMS), Web Services (not web page development), and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) Communication Protocol.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot XML files and WSDLs.
  • Support Web Service testing utilizing the SoapUI test program.
  • Engage in system testing and key site test activities as a tester.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required:
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix/Linux Operating Systems.
  • Proficient in Linux shell scripting.
  • Solid understanding of IP network technologies and software tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with VMware virtual environments.
  • Technical comprehension of systems, databases, networking, and computing environments.
  • Knowledge of server operations, data communications, and systems analysis.
  • Understanding of networking and enterprise system architecture.
  • Awareness of network security issues, policies, and implementation techniques.

Preferred:
  • Experience in Unix/Linux Operating Systems Administration.
  • Familiarity with NAS Technical Operations.
  • Knowledge of Oracle.
  • Working knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) systems.
  • Familiarity with Web Service and/or Java Message Service (JMS) systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Mathematics, or a Bachelor’s degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science, along with twelve (12) years of relevant work experience in a computer science or mathematics field.

Alternatively, a Master’s Degree in any field of study with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of either undergraduate or graduate study in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science, along with nine (9) years of related work experience in a computer science or mathematics field is acceptable.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a US Citizen or provide documented proof of eligibility to work in the US. Selected applicants will undergo a government investigation and must have resided in the US for at least the past three years.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is conducted indoors in an office setting, primarily involving prolonged periods of sitting or standing. Willingness to travel is required. The position is on-call 24/7 for site support. This is a full-time role with standard work hours and no specified job duration.

COMPENSATION:
Salary range is $80,000 - $92,000.
