Job Summary

Governors State University seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Assistant Athletic Trainer to join our team. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Team Physician and Head Athletic Trainer to provide top-notch care and support to our student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend athletic events and practices, requiring flexible work hours.
  • Provide training and information for injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Administer preventive or rehabilitative treatment to athletes engaged in various university sports.
  • Maintain accurate records of athletes for eligibility and report on accidents, injuries, treatments, and physician referrals.
  • Oversee the athletic training facility, including equipment maintenance and supply inventory.
  • Mentor and supervise athletic training club students through clinical experiences.
  • Establish and maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments in daily treatment logs.
  • Record-keeping, including secondary insurance.
  • Follow and manage concussion protocols established by NATA and ensure timely communication to appropriate parties.
  • Maintain communication with coaches on the care and treatment of their student-athletes.
  • Adhere to all CCAC Athletic Training bylaws, rules, regulations, policy, and procedures.
  • Adhere to all NAIA bylaws, rules, regulations, policy, and procedures.
  • Equips each team with appropriate medical supplies as delegated by Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Assist in creating a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks and hazards.
  • Follows-up with coaches to complete reports for all accidents and files reports with appropriate offices.
  • Works collaboratively with the Head Athletic Trainer, Athletic Director, and coaches to provide technical services and information for injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Analyze situations accurately to take an effective course of action and administer first aid and injury management as needed.
  • Understand and utilize various modalities used in athletic therapy and treatment and follow standing orders issued by Team Physician.
  • Supports and educates coaches and faculty by providing information and offering in-service workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine.
  • Master's degree in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine preferred.
