Job Summary:

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sterile Processing Manager to oversee the daily operations of our Sterile Processing Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in the processing and distribution of medical instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage a team of Sterile Processing technicians and staff to achieve established operational performance and quality goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of Sterile Processing, including collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, distribution, and inventory management.
  • Maintain continued education and proficiency in Sterile Processing operations and equipment through education, literature, and seminars.
  • Serve as a technical expert regarding product reprocessing, decontamination, and sterilization for the facility.
  • Ensure optimal Sterile Processing performance through quality control and quality assurance of all Sterile Processing activities and equipment.
  • Monitor and report equipment operational status and recommend equipment changes, upgrades, and additions to meet manufacturers' instructions for use.
  • Assure departmental standards of operation and policies are in compliance with regulatory and professional agencies, including CMS, TJC, AAMI, AORN, and APIC.
  • Facilitate the recruitment and selection of department staff and provide ongoing feedback and documentation, including performance evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff and ensure staff attend technical and mandatory training/education.
  • Monitor and adhere to labor and expense budgets and maintain reports in appropriate cycles for department performance and staff attendance.
  • Develop and submit department budget to the Director of Perioperative Services and maintain fiscally responsible practices.
Requirements:
  • Minimum three years of experience in an acute or ambulatory care Sterile Processing department.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience in preparing for local, state, and/or federal survey and/or The Joint Commission.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Manufacturing, Health Care Administration, Public Health, or Health Sciences; or five years of experience in an acute or ambulatory care Sterile Processing department and two years of supervisory experience.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification or Registered Central Service Technician Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in Leadership Certification (CHL).
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
  • Five years of experience in an acute-care Sterile Processing department.
  • Three years of progressive supervisory experience.
  • One year or more supervisory experience in a union environment.
