Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for ensuring the proper care and sterilization of instruments at Peninsula Surgery Center.

This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean and orderly central processing area, adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper sterilization of instruments, following manufacturer's instructions and established protocols.
  • Inspect instruments under a microscope for damage and defects, and lubricate as required.
  • Sort and arrange items into proper trays, accurately labeling each item with name and expiration date.
  • Operate sterilizers, ultrasonic washers, and other processing equipment correctly, checking indicators for proper functioning.
  • Perform required biological and chemical monitoring tests on all sterilizers, maintaining logs and records.
  • Maintain inventory levels and accurate records, performing weekly inspections of all sterile items in the facility.
  • Check for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items, replacing as necessary.
  • Maintain and update instrument tray inventory lists.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Training or courses in sterile technique and sterilization of instruments
Qualifications and Skills
  • ASC experience preferred
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and office personnel
  • Ability to promote a favorable facility image
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
  • Flexibility a plus
  • Schedule: Day shift, up to 3 days a week
