Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team as a substitute health services provider. As a substitute nurse, you will be responsible for providing health services to students, promoting health education and preventive health practices, and assisting the Health Services Director in implementing a comprehensive program of health services.

Responsibilities
  • Provide health services to students, including routine and emergency care, medication administration, and health education.
  • Assist the Health Services Director in implementing a comprehensive program of health services, including health education and preventive health practices.
  • Coordinate management systems to administer medications to students and provide prescribed medical treatments.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students and serve as a health advocate for students.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records, participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, and school crisis team as needed.
  • Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration, perform screening procedures, and make referrals as necessary.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • State certified to conduct vision, hearing, spinal, and type 2 diabetes screening or within 6 months of employment.
  • Appropriate CPR Certification.
  • One (1) year nursing experience, preferably in community health or pediatrics.
Working Conditions

The substitute nurse will work irregular and extended hours, including holidays and weekends, and will be exposed to biological hazards, pathogens, and communicable diseases. The substitute nurse will also be required to feed, diaper, and care for handicapped students and will frequently travel to district-wide locations.
