Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse Substitute to join our team at Del Valle Independent School District. As a Registered Nurse Substitute, you will play a vital role in providing health services to students and promoting health education and preventive health practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Health Services Director in implementing a comprehensive program of health services.
  • Provide health services to students, including routine and emergency care, medication administration, and health education.
  • Coordinate management systems to administer medications to students and provide prescribed medical treatments.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students and serve as a health advocate.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records, participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, and enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Education Agency, and district policy.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • State certified to conduct vision, hearing, spinal, and type 2 diabetes screening or within 6 months of employment.
  • Appropriate CPR Certification.
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.
  • One (1) year nursing experience, preferably in community health or pediatrics.
Working Conditions

Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends. Works with frequent interruptions and maintains emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, walking, pushing, and pulling. Regular lifting of loads up to and including 50 pounds. Exposure to biological hazards, pathogens, and communicable diseases. May require feeding, diapering, and caring for handicapped students. Frequent district-wide travel.
