Job SummaryThe Pool Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining surveillance and enforcing pool regulations to ensure the safety of pool patrons. This role involves serving as a head lifeguard, leading part-time and temporary lifeguards, and administering First Aid and CPR as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day pool operations and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Monitor activities in and near the water and report any non-compliance to an immediate supervisor.
- Assist in the coordination of daily programs with lifeguards and recreation staff.
- Conduct and teach American Red Cross courses, including Water Safety, Lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid, and Basic Water Rescue.
- May instruct and supervise aquatic programs and courses.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies, including rescue, First Aid, and CPR.
- Clean pool equipment, pool deck, swimming pools, and locker room facilities, and perform related maintenance.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including safety checks and inspections.
- Document and report incidents, including shift reports, incident reports, and facility checklists.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience as a lifeguard.
- Possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- Must obtain Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License within 6 months of hire.
- Must be able to successfully pass a performance test, which includes simulated pool rescues, prior to hire and every six (6) months after employment.
- Experience in aquatics programming and events.
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI) and/or Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI).
- Supervisory experience.
The physical demands of this role include exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
