Position Overview
The Storage Systems Administrator plays a crucial role in managing a comprehensive enterprise storage framework. This position demands a high level of technical proficiency in storage architecture, system management, and operational processes. The individual in this role is tasked with enhancing the configuration of the enterprise storage setup to ensure optimal availability, performance, and capacity utilization. Responsibilities include engaging in the lifecycle management of acquiring, installing, maintaining, and replacing server and storage devices across both on-premises and cloud-based IT environments. The administrator will gather and analyze metrics to refine storage operations, identify potential risks, conduct assessments, and devise risk mitigation strategies. Additionally, this role involves the development and upkeep of system documentation and procedures in alignment with organizational requirements.
Compensation
Pay Grade 55
Salary commensurate with experience and educational background.
Essential Qualifications
100% -1. A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the administration and upkeep of network server environments, including at least one (1) year of direct technical support for large-scale network server environments or a closely related field; AND
2. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline; OR
3. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Key Responsibilities
1. Install, configure, and manage enterprise server and storage systems, including VMware, Dell Storage, Exagrid NAS, Spectralogic Verde, Fujitsu, Nimble SAN arrays, and Pure Storage.
2. Set up, configure, and oversee Commvault and Veeam server and client software, including scheduling and monitoring backup policies.
3. Generate backup status reports as necessary.
4. Administer Brocade fiber channel switch fabrics.
5. Configure single initiator zone sets and monitor switch utilization and performance.
6. Collaborate with server administrators to create, secure, and mount NFS exports.
7. Develop and implement Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations plans according to organizational requirements.
8. Install, configure, maintain, and manage Linux and Windows servers to support storage operations while overseeing Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces.
9. Work with vCenter administrators to provision Storage Area Network (SAN) resources to VMware ESX cluster datastores as needed.
10. Configure and manage volume snapshots.
11. Assist clients with point-in-time file restoration.
12. Schedule and monitor volume replication for disaster recovery while ensuring the health and availability of infrastructure applications and systems.
13. Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.
14. Execute system changes during scheduled maintenance windows and resolve tier 2 and tier 3 service requests.
15. Identify opportunities for operational automation and develop automated solutions utilizing current system APIs.
16. Mentor junior team members.
17. Perform other related duties as required or directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
1. Proficient in administering enterprise-level data storage systems with a solid understanding of the following services and technologies: SAN administration including LUN provisioning, fiber channel zoning, and server mapping; NAS administration including NFS and SMB file sharing; integration with VMware ESX Server; data migration strategies; snapshots; volume replication; managing file and share permissions in an Active Directory environment; and storage monitoring and performance tuning; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Capability to manage and administer backup systems and schedules.
3. Familiarity with scripting technologies such as PowerShell.
4. Working knowledge of Unix or Linux-based operating systems.
5. Understanding of Distributed File System (DFS).
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clients, leadership, and team members.
7. Ability to mentor junior staff.
8. Competence in completing complex projects with minimal guidance.
9. Ability to work independently to support a 24/7/365 operational environment.
10. Familiarity with contributing to deliverables and meeting performance metrics.
11. Experience in coordinating with senior management and clients.
