Position Title: Greenhouse Technician

About the Role:

Ohalo is in search of individuals who are enthusiastic about hands-on plant cultivation to become part of our greenhouse workforce. As a Greenhouse Technician, you will be responsible for nurturing vibrant, healthy plants that support a team of researchers dedicated to innovating plant breeding techniques. Key responsibilities include planting, transplanting, watering, monitoring for pests and diseases, weeding, collecting data, harvesting seeds, and conducting controlled pollinations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, reliability, and responsibility. Additionally, the candidate should be prepared to engage in repetitive physical tasks such as potting and planting within the greenhouse environment. While prior experience in greenhouse or agricultural settings is advantageous, it is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide daily care and maintenance for various plant species
• Collaborate with scientists to accurately gather and document data using electronic tools
• Inspect for and manually eliminate pests and weeds, as well as apply beneficial insects for pest control
• Conduct pesticide applications, maintain records, and report findings
• Prepare planting media, and plant or transplant seeds, cuttings, and other propagules
• Monitor and adjust irrigation, nutrients, lighting, and climate conditions to enhance plant health
• Harvest, process, document, and organize seeds
• Ensure a clean and safe working environment
• Safeguard company information, including proprietary knowledge

Candidate Profile:

• Fundamental understanding of plant science, horticulture, propagation, and pest management
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse and innovative teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and solution-oriented mindset
• Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to routine tasks
• Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds
• Able to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
• Availability to work weekends
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and eligibility for coverage under a company vehicle insurance plan
