Role Summary:

Ohalo is on the lookout for individuals who are enthusiastic about hands-on plant cultivation to enhance our greenhouse operations. As a Greenhouse Technician, you will be instrumental in producing vibrant, healthy plants that support our scientific team in advancing plant breeding methodologies. Key responsibilities encompass planting, transplanting, watering, pest and disease monitoring, weeding, data collection, seed harvesting, and executing controlled pollinations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to safety, efficiency, reliability, and responsibility. Additionally, candidates should be prepared to engage in repetitive physical tasks such as potting and planting within the greenhouse environment. While prior experience in greenhouse or agricultural settings is advantageous, it is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily care and maintenance for various plant species
  • Collaborate with scientists to accurately gather and document data using electronic tools
  • Monitor for and manually eliminate pests and weeds, while applying beneficial insects for pest control
  • Conduct pesticide applications, maintain records, and ensure compliance
  • Prepare planting media and perform planting or transplanting of seeds and cuttings
  • Oversee and adjust irrigation, nutrients, lighting, and climate conditions to promote optimal plant health
  • Harvest, process, document, and organize seeds
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment
  • Safeguard company information, including proprietary data

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Fundamental understanding of plant science, horticulture, propagation, and pest management
  • Ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to routine responsibilities
  • Capacity to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
  • Availability to work weekends
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and eligibility for company vehicle insurance coverage
