Position Title: Greenhouse Technician

About the Role:

Ohalo is on the lookout for individuals who are enthusiastic about cultivating plants to enhance our greenhouse operations. As a Greenhouse Technician, you will play a vital role in producing vibrant, healthy plants that support our team of researchers dedicated to advancing plant breeding techniques. Key responsibilities encompass planting, transplanting, watering, pest and disease monitoring, weeding, data collection, seed harvesting, and controlled pollination tasks. The ideal candidate will exhibit a strong commitment to safety, efficiency, reliability, and responsibility. A willingness to engage in repetitive physical activities, such as potting and planting, is essential. Previous experience in greenhouse or agricultural settings is advantageous but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily maintenance and care of various plant species
• Collaborate with scientists to accurately gather and document data using electronic tools
• Identify and manually eliminate pests and weeds, while applying beneficial insects for pest control
• Conduct pesticide applications, maintain records, and report findings
• Prepare planting media and execute planting or transplanting of seeds and cuttings
• Monitor and adjust irrigation, nutrients, lighting, and climate conditions to ensure optimal plant health
• Harvest, process, document, and organize seeds
• Uphold a clean and safe working environment
• Safeguard company information, including proprietary knowledge

Candidate Qualifications:

• Fundamental understanding of plant science, horticulture, propagation, and pest management
• Ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
• Detail-oriented with a focus on routine tasks
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Willingness to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
• Availability to work weekends
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license and eligibility for company vehicle insurance
