Job Summary:

The Rural Transit Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of SETHRA's public transit system in nine rural counties in Southeast Tennessee. This role involves strategic planning, operational oversight, budget development and management, compliance monitoring, fleet procurement and asset allocation, staff recruitment and supervision, and grant research and management. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Public Transit Director and contribute to the mission of providing efficient, accessible, and sustainable public transportation for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve transit efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure effective use of funds and assets.
  • Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing public transit.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Research and manage grants to support transit operations and infrastructure development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., transportation, business, public administration).
  • At least 5 years of experience in public transportation, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations governing public transit.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
