Job Summary

As a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II-1 at International Flavors & Fragrances, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing facilities. This position requires a high level of mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities, including lubrication, cleaning, and inspection of equipment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems, using mechanical knowledge and technical documentation to restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
  • Remove and replace valves, pumps, motors, piping, and other equipment to facilitate maintenance activities or install new equipment.
  • Measure, cut, and install gaskets in equipment to repair leaks and/or replace existing gaskets.
  • Lubricate gearboxes, pumps, bearings, and other equipment to prolong life and ensure safe operation.
  • Burn, heat, weld, and cut metal items using oxy-fuel torches and welding equipment to dismantle old or build new equipment.
  • Inspect, remove, and replace mechanical seals and lip seals in vessels, pumps, gearboxes, and other equipment to control and/or repair leaks.
  • Inspect, repair, and/or replace items such as steam traps, valves, and strainers to protect personnel, equipment, and conserve energy.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and install piping of various compositions to replace defective piping or install a new system.
  • Adjust tension or change belts on equipment to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Operate motor vehicles, such as pick-up trucks, vans, manlifts, bucket trucks, and fork trucks.
  • Drill, tap, and cut various metal and plastic materials using electric or pneumatic drill motors, taps, and dies to produce pieces and parts to desired specifications.
  • Inspect ladders, tools, job sites, fire extinguishers, and other equipment to ensure safety and protect personnel.
  • Perform first breaks on equipment and piping systems using protective equipment to isolate and make safe equipment scheduled for maintenance work.
  • Tag and lock out equipment as required to make it inoperable and safe to work on for self and co-workers.
  • Crate or uncrate equipment, such as machinery parts, using hand tools to ship or make items available for use.
  • Fabricate and install brackets and hangers on piping, tubing, and equipment to secure them.
  • Set up and operate drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts to maintain equipment operation.
  • Remove and reinstall safety devices, such as relief valves and rupture discs, to perform routine inspections and tests and/or replace faulty ones.
  • Perform rigging using wire ropes, slings, chokers, chain hoists, come-alongs, and/or motorized lifting equipment to move, install, repair, or replace valves, pumps, motors, piping, and other equipment to perform maintenance or replace components.
  • Utilize site computer systems to enter time card information, order equipment, retrieve and/or enter equipment maintenance history, and take computer-based training programs.
  • Order materials for equipment maintenance activities using equipment specification sheets, vendor parts listings, and site computer systems to support equipment repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Coordinate and/or follow vendor or contractor work to ensure that their work is being performed safely and correctly.
  • Align rotating equipment, such as motors, turbines, pumps, and fans, using dial indicators or laser alignment equipment to ensure proper seal and bearing life in that equipment.
  • Apply paints and other coatings used to prolong the life of equipment.
Fitness Requirements
  • Lift material up to 50 pounds.
  • Push/Pull material up to 50 pounds.
  • Use hands to twist, grip, turn repetitively.
  • Repetitive use of elbow flexing, wrist, shoulder.
  • Stand in a static position for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Walk on a flat surface distances up to 0.5 miles at a time.
  • Climb ladders up to 12 feet.
  • Climb into and out of forklifts.
  • Work with head in a tilted position (up to 70 degrees).
  • Work in a squatting position.
  • Work in a sitting position.
  • Type using a keyboard up to 1 hour per day.
  • Medically qualified to wear a respirator.
