Job Title: Success Coach/Counselor

Job Summary:

The City of West Park is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Success Coach/Counselor to join our team. As a key member of our Children Services Council program, you will provide essential support to participating youth by advising, coaching, mentoring, encouraging, and advocating to help guide them on a successful, positive, and educational path.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain daily activity schedules and calendars of events and special topics for weekly classes with the team.
  • Facilitate services related to program activities according to the calendar of events.
  • Lead group activities to promote positive peer relationships.
  • Keep track of weekly activities, maintaining daily logs with client signatures for accountability of hours worked and enter units of service into billing logs on a weekly basis so invoicing can be prepared in a timely manner.
  • Create, review, and update youth's Individual Service Plan, Education Update form in accordance with contract requirements and monitor youth's progress/challenges in completing goals.
  • Conduct mock interviews with youth interviewing for scholarships and/or employment opportunities.
  • Work with the Team Lead to coordinate and facilitate mentor-youth activities to maximize mentor involvement with youth.
  • Implement youth's educational plan, follow up on youth's educational challenges, and arrange meetings with youth who are performing poorly in school to assess and address key issues and develop an action plan to increase academic development.
  • Assess the needs for internal and external services and community resources and make appropriate referrals, including following up with other agencies, caseworkers, and the family to assure needs have been met.
  • Provide case management and informal counseling to youth and caregivers regularly and during times of crisis to assist in identifying and planning resolutions to conflicts.
  • Address concerns of and maintain open/collaborative communication with referral sources, mentors, caregivers, caseworkers, etc. regarding referrals, youth compliance, services given/received, and youth progress toward goals.
  • Keep accurate information regarding youth class attendance and program participation, including group notes, copies of handouts/class material, and sign-in sheets.
  • Assure all group notes are turned in on time and appropriate paperwork is filed in youth's binder.
  • Evaluate and assess the needs and strengths of clients and families.
  • Administer outcomes and assessments thoroughly and in a timely manner in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Enter chronological notes into youth's computerized file for units billed and services provided. Notes must be updated weekly and cannot be more than 1 week behind at any given time. Compliance will be checked during supervision a minimum of twice per month.
  • Conduct case management, school visits, as well as any other field work needed to stabilize or support youth in reaching goals.
  • Transport youth as necessary for various activities, including but not limited to program activities and events.
  • Maintain confidentiality, moral codes of conduct, and professionalism at all times.
  • Carry a caseload of up to 25 to 30 youths to provide well-rounded case management services in efforts to fulfill the needs of our disadvantaged youth.
  • Actively participate in agency activities, including weekends.
  • Attend all planned trainings and staff meetings.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the rendering of first aid in cases of minor injuries.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports as directed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations required:
  1. Valid Florida Driver's Licensing
  1. Must be able to pass a Level 2 ACHA background screening.
  • Computer skills required:
  1. Development Software; Microsoft Office Suite
Other skills required:
  1. Previous experience in a similar environment preferred.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of the interests and characteristics of various age groups, and the ability to apply this knowledge in supervision of and participation in activities.
  3. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of public educational and recreational activities and programs, and of major instructional procedures, rules, and regulations.
    1. Knowledge of basic safety and first aid procedures.
    2. Ability to fully administer and teach the assigned curriculum.
    3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    4. Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
    5. Ability to organize and actively participate in various indoor and outdoor educational and recreational activities.
    6. Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
    7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, or political affiliation.
