Position Overview:

The Mobile Blood Collection Specialist is responsible for delivering exceptional service while facilitating donor registration, conducting thorough donor interviews, performing limited physical assessments, and executing Whole Blood Phlebotomies. This role includes monitoring donor recovery and managing any adverse reactions. Additionally, the specialist will oversee various equipment and supply quality control.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide respectful and professional service to all customers, both internal and external.
  2. Conduct general and specialized donor registration using both computer systems and manual methods as necessary.
  3. Administer tests including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and hematocrit/hemoglobin levels.
  4. Prepare pre-donation Apheresis samples.
  5. Confidentially interview donors regarding their medical history and current health status.
  6. Perform phlebotomy for Allogeneic Whole Blood and Directed Whole Blood Collection.
  7. Monitor and manage the manual collection of donor units in the drawing area.
  8. Properly prepare blood units for transport to the laboratory.
  9. Assist with donor recovery and manage any adverse reactions.
  10. Draw specimens for donor re-testing and other orders.
  11. Conduct daily setup and breakdown of equipment/supplies, along with quality control on specified instruments.
  12. Accurately complete all required documentation related to donors, procedures, quality control, and cleaning records.
  13. Actively recruit donors for various Blood Bank Programs and special events.
  14. Work at various draw locations as needed.
Customer Interaction and Problem-Solving:

Maintain a high standard of conscientious, courteous, and enthusiastic service to all customers and the public. Prioritize customer needs during face-to-face or telephone interactions, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional service.

Complexity of Work:

This role involves duties that require related steps and processes, necessitating the ability to make choices and recognize differences in easily identifiable situations. Occasionally, the work may include various unrelated duties, requiring analysis and decision-making based on the specifics of each assignment.

Supervision:

Supervisors provide assignments by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines, assisting with unusual situations. Employees are expected to plan and execute steps to complete assignments while following established policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in customer service preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with blood and perform successful venipunctures.
  • Good documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic math skills related to donor eligibility and draw information.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations.
